The REKRUMO project is implemented by Hilfswerk International in Ukraine and Hilfswerk International (Austria) with funding from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection.
The aid station operates in the city of Zlatopil, Kharkiv region. We strive to reduce suffering and improve the mental health and well-being of vulnerable groups affected by the war in Ukraine. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the sustainable strengthening of social protection systems in Ukraine to support both the long-term management and the immediate alleviation of the negative socioeconomic consequences of the armed conflict in Ukraine. Particular emphasis is placed on addressing the needs of vulnerable and poverty-affected population groups, including women, children and youth, older people, people with disabilities, and internally displaced persons.

The Mobile Team provides essential support to conflict-affected persons with reduced mobility. Recognizing that these individuals often face significant challenges accessing basic goods due to physical limitations and financial hardship, the team delivers food and hygiene kits directly to their homes. This targeted assistance improves food security and access to non-food items (NFIs), helping to meet their immediate socioeconomic needs. The distribution of these supplies is part of a broader Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) program designed to offer comprehensive care and promote the well-being of those most in need.

I have been going to Help Point almost since the day it opened. At first, I thought, what am I, an old man, going to do there? But I went, and I have no regrets! Of course, I am not as nimble as the young people at “Magic Threads,” but at least I got my hands moving and loosened up a bit. And neurographics is a strange thing. It’s like you’re just drawing, but then I look at it, and it really does make me feel lighter. The specialists there are good and attentive. The main thing is that it’s not just entertainment, but also useful. I feel younger and more energetic. Thank you to the Help Point Zlatopil team.

During this very difficult period for me, when my son has been defending my native Ukraine for four years from an enemy who treacherously invaded our peaceful life, when the enemy targets kindergartens, hospitals, and the homes of civilians, when my Ukraine groans with the blood and pain of my citizens… and it seems there is no way out of this situation… I was lucky to take part in a psychology project. I am very grateful to psychologist Galina and the girls who attend these group sessions with me — the very pleasant atmosphere gives me hope that everything will be fine! Thank you very much!

I came to individual sessions with Ms Galina with the aim of reducing anxiety and understanding what prevents me from being more effective in life and business. Each meeting revealed my fears and inner obstacles. I received support, effective tools and the realisation that changes are happening. This is a very important experience. I am grateful for the professional help! Later, I started attending the “Resource Boom” group, where I learned about various creative practices that allow me to listen to myself, my feelings, and my emotional state, as well as understand the internal and external resources I have. This is important help in dealing with anxiety, stress, and other challenges of our turbulent times. I am grateful for the new knowledge, the safe space, and the opportunity to learn self-help.

I enjoy attending Olena’s classes — it is very interesting to make crafts out of paper and thread with my own hands. It develops perseverance and attention, hand motor skills, and thinking. Olena is very kind and attentive, and it is extremely interesting to do everything with her. I am grateful to her for her sensitive attitude towards us.

Yulia Semerenka and my son Myron. IDP
Myron and I lived in Kharkiv, in the Saltivka neighbourhood. When the war began, we left Kharkiv on 27 February and moved to Pervomaiskyi (Zlatopol), where we have remained ever since. Myron was eight months old when we left. We lived here quietly, getting used to the new city and starting to build a life here. Myron is growing up, he needs to develop and be part of society, to learn. I looked for options, but there were very few in this small city. By some miracle, I found the wonderful Help Point. I am very happy and grateful to the teacher Oleksandra. Myron eagerly attends all classes, does crafts, dances, and exercises (which he never did in the private kindergarten I tried to send him to in order to give him a well-rounded development). It’s great that there is such a project that children can attend. Because in our difficult times, even kindergartens are not adequate. And such educators are impossible to find. It’s like looking for gold. We sincerely thank the Help-Point Zlatopil team and everyone who supports this project. Thanks to you, my child has a full and real childhood. I would very much like to see more projects like this. Thank you!!!🤗

Iryna Prylypko
My name is Iryna Prylypko, and this is my son Oleksandr. He was a much-wanted and long-awaited child who was born almost two years before the war began. We were unable to leave our home and hometown, so we are staying and eagerly awaiting the end of the war. Kindergartens are not fully operational. However, in our city, there is now an opportunity to attend classes at Help Point, where children can develop and socialise, so we decided to give it a try. Thank you to the Help Point Zlatopil team for their support and sensitivity. My child has blossomed thanks to their caring and professional attitude, and his insecurity, fear and discomfort in communicating have disappeared. Thanks to teacher Oleksandra, my son is eager to learn new things and looks forward to new meetings. Thank you to the Help-Point Zlatopil project and to these people who are helping our children in these difficult times not to lose hope for the future and to have the opportunity to communicate, gain knowledge and feel happy.

We are sincerely grateful for the creation of such important and useful initiatives as this project, as well as for the space where children have the opportunity to communicate, develop their creative abilities and learn new things. We would like to express our special gratitude to educator Oleksandra for the attention and time she devotes to children during this difficult period when kindergartens are closed. My daughter and I greatly appreciate the work of the HelpPoint team. My child enjoys attending classes and always comes home with positive emotions.

I am very happy that such a necessary and useful space has appeared in our city. I would especially like to thank psychologist Larisa for her extremely important work. Attending her groups “Maintaining a Positive Outlook” and “Maximum Balance,” I noticed significant positive changes in my psychological state and mental health. Thank you for showing that even during wartime, it is possible not to put life on hold, to enjoy life and to fulfil small but significant dreams.

My child loves going to Veronica’s classes; for her, it’s like an adventure. The classes are fun, friendly and interesting. When Veronica has a class, nothing can stop my child, not even rain, wind or a hurricane. “Mum, get ready, we’re going!”

Iryna Kryvenok, 44 years old, daughter Varvara, 7 years old.
I became an active visitor to Open Space. I arrange in advance which film I want to see. Sometimes, when the film is suitable for children, I take them with me. For them, it’s also a special event, almost like going to a real cinema, with popcorn and drinks, but without the fuss and expense. We enjoy something new together and then discuss what we have seen. These are our shared, quality moments. It’s not just watching a film, it’s my personal hour of rest and recovery. It’s a reminder that I’m not just a mother and housewife, but also a woman with her own hobbies. Special thanks for the big screen. Watching a film not on a small laptop with constant interruptions, but completely immersed in the images and sound — it’s just an unforgettable experience. Open Space at Help Point has become a real lifeline for me. Thanks to it, I have found balance and realised that in order to have the energy for household chores, I need to have time for myself. And now I have it!
